Do I have to register to post ads?
Yes. You can then post ads, edit them, move the ad to a different category, extend the expiration date, delete the ad, and more. Plus, once you become a registered MotorcycleShopper.com Member, your password gives you access to different personalized areas within our sites.

Do you sell user's personal data?
Absolutely not! We pledge not to sell, rent, or lend user's data.

Will MotorcycleShopper contact me via email?
Yes, but only when there's an express need for it. For example, if we make any significant changes to our service or add any new features, we may send you an email; if we launch a new service or related site you may get a short notice; but again, we only send notices when there's something important to share.

What happens after I register?
Our server emails a password to the address you registered. This password allows you to post ads and access other personalized areas in our sites.

What if I don't like the password?
Go to the SwapMeet, click on "Change Password" from the navigation bar. Enter your email (which serves as your user ID), enter the current password, then type a new password you like. You must confirm the new password by typing it twice.

I can't remember my password!
Go back to the SwapMeet, click "Forgot Your Password," enter your email address and date of birth (as you entered when you registered) and the server will email you your password.

How do I include a photo?
At present we don't allow image uploads to our server (we may do so in the future). In the meantime, you must use a third party service (such as Yahoo! Photos. Once you've uploaded a photo to the service, you must enter the URL to the photo into the photo link box as you post your ad, or later through the Ad Editor (image links end with a .JPG or .GIF extension); you must also check the box to activate the image. If your service gives you a page where you can display several photos of your bike, then use the Web site link instead (webpage files usually end with a .HTM or .HTML extension). If you don't have and image, DO NOT check the photo link checkbox.

I'm a dealer. Can I post ads?
Yes! The only requirement is that you let readers know you are a dealer or business. For example, you can use your business name as part of the ad. There's no fee for commercial ads.

I use the computer at the library;
Is there a way for me to post ads?

Yes, but since you're using a public computer, you will not have an email address on that machine; however, there's a solution. Go to any Web-based email provider (such as Hotmail.com), and create an account. When that is done, you can register in the SwapMeet. After you register with the SwapMeet, the server will email your password to your new email account; when you have the password, you can start posting ads. Please write down passwords and keep them in a safe place.

Cannot access my account to post or edit ads.
I get an error message!

The email and password fields are case-sensitive. This means that if you registered as zx7rider@web-isp.com but then you try to access your SwapMeet account by typing ZX7Rider@web-isp.com instead, you'll get an "invalid username" message. Same goes for the password.

How long will my ad/s run for?
You can run ads for as long as you want or need to. When you post an ad for the first time, you can choose between 30, 60, 90 or 180 days. The default setting is 90 days. If you want to extend the ad after you've posted it, you can do so through the AD EDITOR. You can extend ads in 30 day increments at a time (we're working to allow you to choose longer extension periods).

I posted one ad but I see there's a duplicate!
MotoAds, the software that runs the SwapMeet, uses several CGI scripts. When you click on Submit Ad, the script executes a command to post the data in your ad. If you double-click, you are telling the script to post the same data twice. DO NOT do this. Having repeat ads is nothing more than a waste of bandwidth. If you notice you've posted duplicate ads, go to the AD EDITOR and delete one.

I need to make changes to an ad.
How do I do that?

From the SwapMeet nav bar, click "EDIT AD." Then enter your email address and password. The AD EDITOR TABLE will load, this table shows all the ads you've posted and which are still current. To edit one ad, click the blue text for the ad that you want to edit (this is pretty self-explanatory once you access your ad table). Then make the changes you want by erasing whatever you need and re-typing. Then click on UPDATE AD; a confirmation box will appear. You can go back to the ad table or logout.

What does "Preferred Contact" mean?
When you register, you provide some basic info about yourself. MotoAds, the software that runs the SwapMeet completes a big portion of the ad forms to save you time and avoid mistakes. You provide your email address and phone number when you register. By default, both your email address and phone number automatically appear when you post an ad. However, you may want people who respond to your ad to just call you instead of emailing you, so you can choose PHONE instead. This is especially helpful if you've entered an ad for a friend who does not have email access, you can type the ad, select PHONE as the "preferred contact," then go to the AD EDITOR and change the phone number to show his.

Will my ad/s be deleted automatically?
Yes. The program is designed to delete ads once they expire. But, if you've sold your item/s or found what you were looking for, then it's a good idea to manually delete the ads immediately.

I want to delete an ad. How do I do that?
Click on AD EDITOR. Once the ad table loads, find the ad you want to delete. Click the checkbox on the left column on the same line of the ad to be deleted and a checkmark will appear. Then click the UPDATE button on the top of the window. The table will refresh and the ad is no longer in the database.

Can I change my personal data?
You can change everything, except the email address (we are working on a utility that will allow you to import your data). If you change ISPs (Internet Service Providers), simply register again with the new email info. To change your data, click on EDIT YOUR USER PROFILE, enter your email address and password and make the necessary changes. When you're done click "Update Profile" and your new info is saved.

Can I access my account from places other than my home or office?
Sure! That's why we ask you to enter your email and password every time you want to post ads, edit ads, etc. This allows you to access your account from anywhere in the world.

Can I share my password with others?
Only if you know them REALLY well. Anyone who gains access to your account has the ability to edit or delete your ads. So make sure they know what they're doing before you allow them to access your account.

Someone has requested I email my password for verification purposes. Should I send it to them?
No one has any business asking for passwords. We don't. If we want to look it up, we have ways to do so. So the answer is ABSOLUTELY NOT!

May I post the same ad in different categories?
No. The SwapMeet has an extensive index featuring over 40 categories, so find the one that provides the best fit for your ad. Posting the same ad in different categories simply annoys readers. If you post an ad that has a lot of different items, you may feel it "qualifies" for posting under several categories. This is not a good idea. The best thing to do is to post several individual ads under the best heading.

What happens after the sale?
MotorcycleShopper.com is only a venue for buying, selling and trading; this means buyer and seller are responsible for starting and completing the transaction. But, to give you a good start, here are some tips that may help both parties finalize the agreement in an expeditious manner:

  1. Maintain good email contact at all times and make sure all pertinent personal information, such as name, address and phone number, etc. is available to both parties. In the case of a vehicle (either complete of for parts), make sure to consult local or state authorities regarding the requirement of a title for registration purposes.
  2. Make delivery or pick-up arrangements ahead of time and, if these arrangements will affect the selling price, stipulate that on a written agreement.
  3. If the amount warrants it, contact an escrow company to insure both money and personal property will be protected.
  4. It is always a good idea to have some sort of signed and notarized contract (by both parties) beforehand, which spells out the details of the transaction, especially where it involves a vehicle or if the total amount warrants such a document.
  5. Most shipping companies will furnish you with a tracking number for the item/s being shipped (also referred to as the Bill of Lading). This info can be used to determine where the item is at any given time and can help avoid costly and repeated calls to the shipper.
  6. Insurance is always a good idea and it can be purchased directly from the carrier, in most cases.

I've been ripped off. What can I do?
First, read the Guidelines that govern the SwapMeet. It's been our experience that problems occur due to poor communication between parties. It's a good idea to always maintain an open and respectful dialog in hopes to find a solution to a disagreement. If this does not yield positive results, you may have to consult with a qualified counselor to protect your rights. We cannot give legal advise to anyone.

I'd like to warn others. What can I do?
You can post a general message in the Community section of the SwapMeet, but before you start blasting away, please read the Community Guidelines. You are responsible and liable for your postings, so be careful. If you decide you want to post a message, you must do so under the "Neighborhood Watch" section. DO NOT post "warning" messages in other sections. If you do, your messages will be deleted and your account may be cancelled.
